Two national parks, one remarkable landscape. Plan what to visit, where to stay and how to travel between the places that matter to you. Argentina and Brazil offer different perspectives of Iguazu Falls; park tickets, excursions and transfers are separate decisions.

Plan Your Trip to Iguazu Falls

Start with the time you actually have for sightseeing, then choose your base and the parks you want to visit. Arrival, departure and border formalities need their own space in the itinerary. Two calendar dates do not necessarily give you two full days at the Falls.

This page helps you compare the main choices. Follow the individual guides for operating conditions, admission categories and the details of each experience. The suggested pace is editorial guidance, not an official visit duration or a promise that every route will be open.

About Iguazu Falls

The Falls lie on the Iguazu River, which forms part of the Argentina–Brazil border. The waterfall system extends approximately 2,700 metres, with drops of up to around 80 metres, within a protected subtropical forest landscape. Those figures describe the wider system; they are not the height of every waterfall.

You visit through Iguazú National Park in Argentina or Iguaçu National Park in Brazil. Each park has its own entrance, admission and routes. One side does not replace the experience of the other.

The surrounding forest, plants and wildlife — guide in Spanish are part of the visit. The landscape is more than a single viewpoint: allow time to look around between the walkways and waterfalls.

Whether you travel as a family, a couple or on your own, choose routes that suit your pace and mobility. Plan breaks and adapt your priorities to the weather and the paths confirmed open for your visit. Wildlife sightings and access to a particular walkway cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Observe animals from a distance, keep food put away and do not feed or touch them. Follow the park's instructions. A coatí approaching a rest area is not an invitation to bring it closer for a photograph.

Top Tours in Iguazu

Gran Aventura — the Argentine boat experience combines a forest route with navigation near the waterfalls. It offers a different perspective from the walkways and requires planning for a wet outing.

Before booking Gran Aventura, check the operator's age, health and mobility restrictions, what to bring and how to protect your belongings. Check the meeting point and whether your arrangement includes park admission or transport from your accommodation; do not assume these are part of the boat ticket.

The catamaran cruise explores the river scenery around Puerto Iguazú, the Iguazu and Paraná rivers, their banks and the meeting of the borders. It does not take you to the base of the waterfalls.

Confirm the catamaran's route, departure point, services and sailing for your chosen date. A regional river cruise and a boat ride beside the Falls serve different purposes; choose according to the landscape and pace you want. An enquiry does not itself confirm a booking.

A helicopter flight from Brazil offers an aerial perspective of the waterfalls and surrounding forest. The experience operates from Foz do Iguaçu, so include the transfer and any international crossing when planning from Argentina.

The flight depends on operating conditions and confirmation by the provider. Compare the complete outing, including the journey to the departure point, rather than treating the flight duration as the total time you need. Do not place an onward connection immediately after an activity that may change with the weather.

You can also explore Macuco Safari in Brazil and the full moon walk in Argentina. They have their own conditions and booking arrangements; they are not automatically included in a standard park visit.

Which Side to Visit: Iguazu Falls Argentina or Brazil?

Both parks show the same waterfall system through different routes. Your decision depends on the time available, how you prefer to explore and the practical needs of your group. Admission to one park does not include the other.

As a planning suggestion, reserving one full day for each side separates the visits and gives you room to make choices. Count arrival, departure and the border crossing separately. Actual time varies with queues, pace and operating conditions.

The comparison describes the visit rather than promising a complete list of available attractions. Use the individual park guides and official notices to check what is open when you travel.

Argentine Side

The Argentine park guide explains a visit with several circuits and viewpoints at different levels. Choose your priorities rather than treating every circuit as a compulsory checklist.

  • Routes: Upper, Lower and Devil's Throat have different characteristics and demands. Check which are operating and which suit your mobility.
  • Devil's Throat: the walkway approaches the upper part of the waterfall when enabled; its opening can change with the river level.
  • Internal connections: the Ecological Train connects parts of the visit. Check the stations and services operating on your day.
  • Optional experiences: Gran Aventura and the full moon walk have their own participation and booking conditions.
  • Before leaving: check admission, circuit status and the park's recommendations, and leave time for breaks.

Brazilian Side

The Brazilian park guide introduces the broad panorama from the opposite bank, with viewpoints and walkways along the route. Count internal transport, walking, queues and the journey from your base as separate parts of the day.

  • Falls route: check the sections of the trail and walkways that are enabled. An elevator or accessible entrance does not make every part of the trail equivalent for every visitor.
  • Devil's Throat: when the walkway is open, it offers a frontal perspective of the water and spray. Confirm its status before making that section the centre of your plan.
  • Internal transport: the service takes visitors from the reception area towards the visiting sectors. It does not replace transport from your hotel.
  • Optional experiences: Macuco Safari is a separate experience. The helicopter flight and nearby Parque das Aves are outside the national park visit.
  • Before leaving: review the entry reservation, access hours, return transport and each traveller's documents.

Status checked on 30 October 2026: the Argentine Devil's Throat page reported a preventive closure due to high water. The Brazilian notice dated 29 October reported temporary closures including Passarela das Cataratas and distinguished other available routes, including Trilha das Cataratas. These are dated notices about different sectors in two parks, not a live report or a reopening promise. Check later updates before setting off.

Published fees are available through the Argentine park and the Brazilian 2026 schedule. Use the park guides to identify your category and check the final conditions. A published tariff and availability on your chosen date are different things.

What to Do Besides Iguazu Falls

Puerto Iguazú — guide in Spanish and Foz do Iguaçu are more than places to sleep. Between park visits, you can add nature, culture and time to explore the region. Compare the journey from your accommodation with the time you want to spend at each attraction.

The nearest option on a map is not automatically the easiest one to combine with a border crossing or a fixed reservation. Pick a realistic number of stops and confirm opening before travelling there.

Top Attractions in Iguazu

Parque das Aves in Brazil focuses on birds of the Atlantic Forest. Its aviaries and observation areas offer a different visit from the waterfalls.

Parque das Aves can complement a day on the Brazilian side, but it needs its own time and separate admission. It is not part of a national park ticket, and there is no need to fit both visits and every optional excursion into one day.

La Aripuca — guide in Spanish uses a large structure made from recovered trunks to encourage reflection on the forest and the value of trees. It is a different kind of stop from the walkways and waterfalls.

Compare La Aripuca with the nature and cultural visits already in your itinerary, and confirm current access and opening before arranging the transfer. A description of the attraction is not confirmation of its operation on a specific day.

Images of the Jungle Museum — guide in Spanish offers a cultural visit centred on wooden sculptures associated with Rodolfo Allou. The detailed guide distinguishes the remaining source and operating checks.

Confirm that the museum is open before travelling there. If you want more options, explore other places to visit — guides in Spanish and choose those that fit your base and available time.

Ready for Your Trip to Iguazu?

Turn the comparison into a practical plan: choose a base, arrange the journeys you actually need and separate the costs before booking. You do not have to change hotels simply because you want to see both national parks.

Choose accommodation around how you will travel

In Puerto Iguazú, staying in the centre may make it easier to organise meals and departures. A forest-area hotel offers another setting, but check the distance to services and how you will get around. Compare the address, transport and what the reservation includes, rather than choosing only from a photograph.

The Puerto Iguazú area guide helps compare those choices. If you prefer to sleep in Brazil, use the Foz do Iguaçu accommodation guide, arrange park days from that base and account for crossing to Argentina.

Think about the airport and hotel together

Puerto Iguazú airport (IGR) and Foz do Iguaçu airport (IGU) are in different countries. Before choosing a flight, compare the transfer to your accommodation as well as the airfare. Arriving across the border may add steps to the journey to your base.

Use the location and arrival guide — in Spanish and check travel documents for your group — in Spanish. Requirements depend on nationality, minors and, where applicable, the vehicle. Booking a transfer does not replace the documents each traveller needs.

Before confirming a reservation

  • Separate national park admission, optional excursions and transfers in your budget.
  • Check what the quoted price includes and the change or cancellation conditions.
  • Leave space between activities and for border formalities; do not rely on a guaranteed crossing time.
  • Prepare suitable footwear, water and protection for your belongings; follow the instructions for any wet activity.

Services to compare for each stage

Travel assistance: Assist 365 is one of the site's existing comparison links. Check coverage, exclusions and the countries covered for the trip you intend to make.

Flights and disruptions: Skyscanner lets you compare flights, while Compensair is linked for enquiries about flight disruptions. Check the relevant service's terms; this page does not promise eligibility or compensation.

Car rental: compare RentCars and RentalCars, including insurance, return conditions and permission to cross the border where required. A rental reservation alone does not establish that cross-border use is allowed.

Excursions and activities: compare the options on Viator, GetYourGuide and Civitatis. Review the route, transfers, restrictions and conditions of the actual option before booking. Provider prices and availability may change.

For the next step, use the complete Cataratas planning guide — in Spanish. Bring together parks, accommodation, routes and transfers, then adapt the plan to your interests and the time available.
